EG On The Move strengthens sustainability

partnership with Water Plus

With a growing UK network, EG On The Move’s strategic partnership with Water Plus is strengthening its on-site water sustainability programme.

And it’s praised the excellent service from the Water Plus team, that’s helping them find more ways to improve operational performance across its estate.

"Water Plus has provided exceptional service and support throughout our partnership. Their professionalism, responsiveness and commitment to delivering a high-quality service across our extensive estate are making a practical but meaningful difference to our business."

Ahmed Khora, Utilities Account Manager at EG On the move.

The Challenge

EG On The Move, the Blackburn-based leading petrol forecourt station operator, has a growing UK network and now runs more than 270 sites and 220 foodservice concessions nationally.

And managing water effectively across such a retail network is important for operational, environmental, financial and regulatory reasons.

Water is essential to the day-to-day operation of a petrol forecourt in supporting customer facilities including washrooms, foodservice outlets, vehicle washing and site maintenance.

Working closely with national business water retailer Water Plus, managing water efficiently helps reduce business costs, improve site operations and supports EG On The Move to realise the company’s sustainability goals.

The Solution

To date, working together, the EG On The Move and Water Plus strategic partnership has introduced advanced water monitoring across the estate, with more than 90 data loggers installed on water meters.

These are providing regular usage updates, during the day and at night, through an online portal Water Plus can provide amongst its services.

It’s giving greater visibility of water consumption at sites.

Ahmed Khora, Utilities Account Manager at EG On The Move, explained: "EG On The Move is committed to reducing our environmental impact by continuing to lower carbon emissions, minimising waste and improving resource efficiency. Water Plus is helping us make meaningful progress by identifying opportunities to reduce water consumption and improve performance across our network."

Building on the existing programme and to identify further savings, Water Plus is working closely with the EG On The Move utilities team, under the supervision of Zakir Hasan, Director of EV and Energy, to also explore undertaking additional water efficiency and trade effluent reviews throughout 2026, to support EG On The Move's long-term sustainability strategy.

The Results

The partnership has already seen improvements to data, easier management around EG On The Move’s expanding portfolio, alongside the data logger installations. The improved monitoring has already identified opportunities to reduce water consumption.  And reducing water use through increased efficiencies, cuts the carbon emissions linked to water used at sites in England and Scotland.

A further 110 data logger installations are now planned during 2026, recognising the success of this programme.

Water Plus also helped a site to save an estimated 52 litres of water per day.*

This equates to a daily saving of:

  • Around 10 toilet flushes (based on a modern dual-flush toilet using c.5 litres per full flush), or
  • More than 100 cups of coffee (approx. 0.5 litre of water per cup, including preparation), or
  • About 350 glasses of drinking water (150ml per glass), or
  • Enough water for around 25 hand washes (approximately 2 litres per hand wash).

Ahmed Khora, Utilities Account Manager at EG On The Move, added: "As EG On The Move continues to grow, it is important to have a trusted partner like Water Plus to help improve operational performance while supporting our sustainability ambitions.”

"We are proud to support EG On The Move as it continues to grow its UK footprint. EG On The Move is focused on sustainability and actively embraces the benefits of advanced water management and data-led decision-making.

"Together, we have improved visibility of water use across their retail estate and identified opportunities to increase usage efficiency. We look forward to continuing to support them."
